Ground Break at Exchange District Condos

Mississauga is undergoing its greatest skyline transformation ever, as eight different towers—both planned and already underway—are set to overtake the height of the 180-metre-tall tower at Absolute World, aka Marilyn, currently Mississauga’s tallest building. Two of the towers set to overtake that height are planned as part of the mixed-use Exchange District Condos development from Camrost-Felcorp. Now, this community is taking its first on-the-ground steps towards construction with the demolition of the existing office building on the site just south of Square One Shopping Centre.

The nine-storey office building at 151 City Centre Drive was most recently the home of the presentation centre for the project’s condominium components. Due to COVID-19 social distancing measures, the presentation centre has switched to the virtual model, allowing work to move forward on the project site. The site was fenced off and crews from York Demolition were spotted at the beginning of May, as interior demolition commenced.

More recent images show that work has since moved on to the removal of the building’s windows, with several openings now visible in the facades. As interior demolition and window removal continue, the first heavy equipment has since arrived on site, hinting at the upcoming start of demolition for the building’s concrete exterior and the structural elements within.

The IBI Group-designed complex will bring towers of 30, 42, 60, and 72 storeys, containing a mix of condominiums, two million square feet of retail, shopping, dining, office and commercial spaces, a boutique hotel, plus a new park and public realm space. Factoring in the height rankings of other proposed and under-construction buildings in Mississauga, the 60 and 72-storey buildings respectively rank second and fifth on the city’s list of future tallest buildings.
